If you look at the FDIC's failed bank list (http://www.fdic.gov/bank/individual/failed/bank...), it shows what happens to each bank's assets and deposits. But this isn't actually an all-bad process because it gives younger banks a chance to take over other banks cheaply and grow.

thanks for update. am just “consumer” as they like to call me, not in the business, but the bank failures feel worrisome to me, especially if the sponge bank is one of the too big to fails. just muddling through all this…

Bank failures will keep going but mostly these banks' deposits get absorbed by new banks and their assets (loans) do also except when acquirer can get away with not taking on bad assets in which case (like this latest one) the bank along with the FDIC fund takes the loss. Not sure why the mainstream press doesn't cover it more. It's weekly data.

how concerned should we be about bank failures esp when “only” one failed on Friday? why no coverage in the MSM?
