Twitter vs. Instagram Smackdown: INFOGRAPHIC

In the last couple months, when I add Twitter handles to an Instagram post, most of them end up scrambled on Twitter, so the people I mention don’t even know I mentioned them. That’s just one of the user shortcomings happening as Twitter and Instagram go to war. Interesting from a tech war standpoint and proof that Facebook was smart to buy Instagram. But as a user of Instagram and Twitter, it’s highly annoying. I’ve just stopped mentioning people on Instagram posts that I tag for Twitter. Not good for engagement (since I’m very good about mentioning people and now I intentionally don’t mention them just to save myself the frustration of their handle showing up wrong on Twitter), but I still like Instagram enough to keep using it.

So note to Twitter: Vine is cool and all for video, but when you’re done integrating it (which you should be by now right?, the acquisition was six months ago), you should really refocus your efforts on a better photo product.

Below is a good infographic via VerticalResponse with more on the war between Instagram and Twitter.

And if anyone has a solution to not having Instagram change @ mentions on Twitter (and/or if you’re successfully using Twitter for photos instead of Instagram), please let me know!

  1. Good Info! I use both and it’s a waste of time to hashtag stuff on Instagram in the hopes that it reaches Twitter…it doesn’t

  2. I’m now following you on insta

    1. Thanks Gilbert. Likewise.
