THE BASIS POINT

Friday Funk: Doin’ It

It does not get funkier than 1970s Herbie Hancock when he started the Headhunters and took over the funk scene after years of playing pure jazz with Donald Byrd and Miles Davis. He took some hits from the jazz community at the time, but the commercial success outweighed all that and albums from that era are legend. Headhunters in ’73, Thrust in ’74, Secrets in ’76 to name a few. Doin’ It is off Secrets is a nice long cut to get your cool back for the long holiday weekend. You’ll come back Tuesday and keep on doin’ it, but for now, it’s time to reset, and Friday Funk has got your back.
