Friday Funk: Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky From Now On

Every Beastie Boys fan knows the Sure Shot lyric “and everything I do is funky like Lee Dorsey” but fewer know that the sample is an homage to Lee Dorsey’s song called Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky From Now On. Great use was recently made of this song in the closing scene of Vinyl episode 2 when Richie (Bobby Cannavale) decides to keep his record company and force them to find the good acts like they used to. That’s the theme of Dorsey’s lyrics in which he resolves to do his own thing to ensure his mind is free and despite what anyone thinks. Themes we should embrace so as not to become just another drone.
