Friday Funk: If There’s A Hell Below, We’re All Gonna Go

Darkness washing over our country right now. Daily shootings. Racism. Hostile politics in an election year. The years-long mission of Friday Funk is to simply ‘help you get your cool back for the weekend’. But that won’t happen for too many this weekend, so the only logical choice is from Curtis Mayfield’s 1970 debut solo album–when he left as front man for soul heavyweights The Impressions to forge ahead with the funk. Musically, If There’s A Hell Below, We’re All Gonna Go stands firm as a foundation of funk. But it also personifies the dark mood enveloping America now like it did then. May our entire country get their cool back at some point … or maybe it’s just as bleak as Mayfield’s words of warning. I hope not. Be good to each other.
