Friday Funk: Lady Don’t Tek No – by Latyrx

Tonight’s Friday Funk installment is for my wife, who I started dating 16 years ago today and married 9 years ago today. Lady Don’t Tek No is by funky rap pioneers Latyrx, a Bay Area duo (Lyrics Born and Lateef The Truthspeaker) of equally deep history. In fact, they’re back out doing shows (including tonight and tomorrow at the Fillmore in San Francisco) with modern day funk kings Galactic, which is how I first discovered Latyrx: my wife and I were at a Galactic show some time around 2000 where Lyrics Born was freestyling over the band and it was about the coolest fkn thing I’d ever seen. As for this song, it says basically everything a woman of her quality needs to hear…
