Friday Funk: Liberation Front

Tonight’s Friday Funk installment is dedicated to David Hogg, a student who survived the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting just six weeks ago then channeled that trauma into stark, focused gun control activism, organizing massive marches and putting politicians who prioritize guns over students on notice.

This week after a Fox anchor bullied him—a high school kid—he led the charge to get some of her largest advertisers to drop her. In just days. His actions and his strength have gotten to me as a father, so while I rarely comment on our toxic political environment, I had to shout out David. He’s fearlessly leading the liberation front against a broken system, and has made me realize that there’s hope.

So David, I know it’s been rough, but here’s a slice of DJ funk from Washington, DC to help you get your cool back for the weekend and keep fighting. As you’ll surely frequent DC more and more, note that Thievery Corporation was formed in DC and their 18th Street Lounge will be a sanctuary for you in the coming years.
