Steve Jobs Weighs In On Health Issues

The health of Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been a concern since he battled cancer in 2004, and his recent weight loss and giving up his MacWorld keynote address caused lots of speculation about his health and lots of worry about his company’s viability. Turns out he has a treatable hormone imbalance and should be fine. But that doesn’t stop the speculation:

…Michael D. Jensen, an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic, said it is possible Mr. Jobs’s cancer has returned and is the cause of the imbalance that led to the weight loss. Treatment could include another surgery to remove the tumor, or drugs to restore a healthy hormonal balance. Doctors said the outlook for patients with a recurrence varies widely.

…The Cupertino, Calif., company’s board released a statement expressing support for Mr. Jobs. “As we have said before, if there ever comes a day when Steve wants to retire or for other reasons cannot fulfill his duties as Apple’s CEO, you will know it,” said the board, which includes Google Inc. Chief Executive Eric Schmidt and former vice president Al Gore. Apple directors declined to comment further.

Long live Jobs … the man is a legend.
