THE BASIS POINT

Thinking Of A Master Plan

Everyone has a master plan. Even if it’s in the deep recesses of their mind. Even if they’re bogged down in the great recession. A master plan is the primary motivation most of us have. Even if we never fully realize our plan, just formulating it keeps us sane, and keeps us getting out of bed every morning.

I’ve had some trouble with my master plan lately because of growing pains. But last week I was rejuvenated by talking to my friend JC Parets, whose money management career is taking off (and whose AllStarCharts blog is a must read).

Why is everything going his way? Because he’s “thinking of a master plan” constantly.

Just like Rakim at his 1986 funkiest when he wrote those Paid In Full lyrics that popped into my head today randomly.

Or maybe not so randomly. So this tune (embedded above), and specifically those opening lines, are for you JC. Cheers brother. Thanks for the inspiration.

And to everyone else who might need help getting your mind right, this classic will help the cause.

Fun Fact:
Snoop’s Paper’d Up is a cover of Erik B & Rakim’s Paid In Full that’s equally funky—with some lyrical and musical variations—it’s the song he performs at Mitchapalooza in Old School.
