THE BASIS POINT

Dow Posts 2nd Highest Ever Point Gain of 889

US stock markets shot up today as investors hunted for bargains and placed their bets on the Fed Funds Rate being cut by 50 basis points to 1% tomorrow. The last time the Fed Funds Rate was at 1% was from June 2003 to June 2004, and then Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan has been widely criticized for contributing to the existing problems by holding the rate so low for so long.

Dow: +889 (second highest point increase ever)
S&P 500: +91
NASDAQ: +143
