THE BASIS POINT

June Jobs Improve after Weak May.

BLS Employment Situation Report (June 2016)

– Nonfarm Payrolls month/month seasonally adjusted +287,000. Previous was +11,000
– Unemployment Rate 4.9%. Previous was 2.8%
– Private Payrolls month/month 265,000. Previous was -6,000
– Labor Participation Rate 62.7 %. Previous was 62.6$
– Average Hourly Earnings month/month +0.1%. Previous was +0.2$
– Average Workweek – 34.4 hrs. Previous was 34.4 hours

With May being so weak and June being strong I am not sure that any conclusions can be drawn about the longer term health of the jobs market.
