Key Realtor Stats. Including Median Income: $34k

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) released a survey of their members today (hat tip Rob), and here are all main stats from the full report. NAR says that their Realtors represent more than half of the approximately 2 million active real estate licenses today.

-Typical NAR Realtor has 12 years of experience
-Nine out of 10 say they are certain they will remain in the business
-35% hold at least one 1 of 6 specialized certifications (up from 24% in 2010)
-Median income down 4.5% to $34,100 last year
-Median income with 2 or less years experience: $8,900
-Median income with 16 or more years experience $47,100
-16% earned a six-figure income
-14% of Realtors work fewer than 20 hours per week
-30% work 20 to 39 hours per week
-41% work 40 to 59 hours per week
-15% work 60 hours per week or more (see 16% six-figure income!)
-Members: obtaining mortgage biggest impediment to closing deals
-Typical Realtor is 56 years old and works 40 hours per week
-57% are women
-3% of all Realtors are under 30, 4% are 30 to 34, 22% are 65 or over
-11% percent of members have one personal assistant
-3% have two or more personal assistants
-Median # of transaction sides (buyside or sellside) in 2010 was 8
-78% of NAR members focus on residential sales
-6% of members report real estate is their first career
-Median-sized firm has 29 licensees with one office
-4 of 10 members are affiliated with an independent, nonfranchised firm
-3% affiliated with a franchise of a national or regional corporation
-21 are with an independent franchised company
-Respondents have typically been with their firm 5 years
-11% report their firm was bought by or merged with another in past 2 years
-91% of Realtors are homeowners
-43% own at least one investment property
-16% own at least one vacation home
-10% own at least one commercial property
-48% hold at least a bachelor’s degree
-15% are fluent in other languages
