bTunes Dedication To Entrepreneurs & Artists: Wanna Be Startin Somethin by Michael Jackson

At -3.8%, 4Q2008 GDP registered it’s slowest quarterly pace since 1982, back when Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones were working on the Thriller album, a recording project that ran from April until November of that year. Things were terrible then with unemployment averaging 9.7%. Yet Thriller stands to this day—a day we’re entering into a third straight quarter of negative GDP growth and 7.2% unemployment—as the greatest selling album of all time, with more than 100 million copies sold.

With job security quickly on its way to being as bad as it was 27 years ago, perhaps it’s time to use this as an inspirational lesson. So if you want to be starting something, there’s never a better time than now—when you might lose your job anyway. So this installment of bTunes is dedicated to everyone sitting on their big idea. Dig it out, flesh it out, and stay up late to build it out … and listen to Thriller’s lead track Wanna Be Startin Somethin. Because that’s the song that started it all. And maybe you can be the next record setting entrepreneur even if you big idea has nothing to do with recording. Just listen to pre-crazy virtuoso Jacko and work and repeat the chant over and over: Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Mah Coo Sa | Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Mah Coo Sa.
