California bans cancellations of insurance for LA homeowners

California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara issued a one-year moratorium preventing insurance companies from cancelling or not renewing homeowner policies in areas impacted by fires. Here’s the full statement and details.

If you’ve been impacted by the fire, Commissioner Lara’s statement says to visit the California Department of Insurance website to see if your ZIP Code is included in the moratorium.

You should also contact the Department of Insurance at 800-927-4357 or via chat or email at insurance.ca.gov if you believe your insurance company is in violation of this law, or have additional claims-related questions.
