THE BASIS POINT

Friday Funk: I Want Freedom

Tonight’s Friday Funk installment is from Chris Joss, a French multi-instrumentalist who’s put out five of his seven albums on the Eighteenth Street Lounge label, which was founded by Eric Hilton and Rob Garza aka Thievery Corporation. Joss has a similar funky electronic sound, and tonight I offer two from his deep catalog.

First is I Want Freedom which is space age disco funk (reminiscent of Jamiroquai), and picking the song as much for that as for the title because freedom is what everyone wants—and what better way to get your cool back for the weekend than to let this song free you? Next up after that is Joss’ best known song Tune Down which is exactly what it says it is. Pure funk anthem music to ensure you slide into a lower weekend gear like a pro.
