Friday Funk: Lost A Legend This Week

Ohio Players founder and Funkadelic music director Walter “Junie” Morrison died this week at age 62. Okayplayer did a proper tribute, and this week’s Friday Funk installment is to pay respect to a monster of funk who’s in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and who George Clinton once called “the most phenomenal musician on the planet.” High praise from the king of interplanetary funk. Below is a selection of Junie’s work–songs you’ll recognize either as originals or because they’ve been so pervasively sampled. RIP Junie. Thanks for your decades long crusade to help people get their cool back.
