THE BASIS POINT

Consumers See Inflation on Every Corner.

Consumer Sentiment (March 2016)

– Sentiment 90.0.  Previous was 91.7.

This is the University of Michigan’s survey index.  This is an attempt to forecast consumer spending in the next three months.

Atlanta Federal Reserve Business Inflation Expectations (March 2016)

– Business Inflation Expectation year/year percent +1.8%. Previous was +1.8%.

The Consumer Sentiment Index show expectation of inflation a good bit higher than the supply side.  This is, in all likelihood, almost entirely about rising gas prices which dominate the consumer’s vision because of their conspicuous postings.
