THE BASIS POINT

Core CPI up a Bit led by increase in Medical Care Cost.

Consumer Price Index (January 2016)

– CPI month/month +0.0%. Previous was -0.1%
– CPI year/year  +1.4%. Previous was +0.7%
– CPI core (less food & energy) month/month +0.3%. Previous was +0.2%
– CPI core (less food & energy) year/year +2.2%. Previous was +2.1%

The largest contributor to inflation in January was Medical Care which was +0.7% (not seasonally adjusted), +0.5% seasonally adjusted and  +3.0% year/year (not seasonally adjusted).

Attributing increased CPI to the December Fed hike is a stretch.
