THE BASIS POINT

Most Prominent Economists Reject Clinton & McCain Gas Tax Holiday

According to a Bloomberg story, more than 200 economists have rejected the gas tax holiday proposed by both Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton and shoe-in Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

We fully agree. How does eliminating federal taxes on gas for the summer months benefit the economy or the political system? It will just make the budget deficit worse. And all the people who vote for McCain or Clinton because of it will have a very rude awakening if one of them wins the election right around the time the tax holiday ends. It’s an absurd political ploy and it any proves politician backing it has no regard for our economy, only their own gain.
