Friday Funk: Finally Moving

There’s no more of an appropriate phrase than “finally moving” to describe the week I’ve had. Major breakthroughs in my quest for the right fit.

More to come on that later. For now, I offer tonight’s Friday Funk installment: Finally Moving is by Pretty Lights aka Derek Vincent Smith, who Rick Rubin called the face and voice of the new American electronic music scene. But this one is far more funky than standard-issue electronic music, aided in large part by heavy-yet-seamless samples from jazz and R&B legends Sonny Stitt and Etta James, whose sampled songs are both added below so you can hear how Pretty Lights integrated them.

This week’s installment is similar to last week in that it’s more of a lounge than pure funk vibe, but also like last week, it’s more than funky enough to get your cool back for the weekend.

Tune in, chill out, and envision yourself finally moving…
