Friday Funk: It’s Funky Enough – The D.O.C.

This Friday Funk installment is from The D.O.C., who was an integral part of NWA’s creative core, co-writing much of their signature material. This cut, It’s Funky Enough, is the first song off his 1989 debut album No One Can Do It Better which was (naturally) produced by Dr. Dre. The whole album is epic and much more lyrically inspired than NWA’s standard hardcore style—it began the NWA crew’s migration from underground gansta rap pioneers to the impenetrable mainstream-but-still-cool formula Dr. Dre still presides over decades later. This album’s staying power is proven by the fact it went gold 3 months after its release then went platinum 5 years later. I must have listened to this D.O.C. tape 8,000 times in high school. I heard this song on the way to work this morning (on Sirius Backspin) so here you go, can’t think of a better way to get your cool back for the weekend…

And no, I haven’t forgotten that this is a housing and rate market blog. I’ll resume all such content next week. Thanks to everyone who has asked and continues to support TheBasisPoint…
