THE BASIS POINT

Friday Funk: Push Push

Tonight’s Friday Funk installment is a heavy-as-it-gets 1971 collab between funky flute pioneer Herbie Mann and Allman Brothers Band founder Duane ‘Skydog’ Allman, who’s widely ranked as one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.

Push Push is a 10 minute odyssey of structured improvisation, and what is life and work if not an odyssey of structured improvisation. Only this version is cool to the last. Which is the whole point of Friday Funk … to shake off the work, focus on the life, and get your cool back for the weekend.

As I said last week, we’ve all got to push always because, what else is there? But let’s do it cool, by our own code.

Enough words. Now push play…
