The equity selloff which started with China and hit the US hard this morning indicated the possibility of worldwide recession.

 

 

PMI Manufacturing Index (December 2015)

– Index level   51.2. Previous was 52.8.

This is a supply-side survey index.  It has been weakening but still indicates expansion.

ISM Manufacturing Index (December 2015)

– Index level 48.2. Previous was 48.6

This is the largest contraction in 6 years.

 

Construction Spending  (November 2015)

– Construction Spending month/month -0.4%. Previous was +0.3%
– Construction Spending year/year  +10.5%. Previous was +13.0%.
